Video: Tight security for Republic Day in city

Preparations to celebrate the 68th Republic Day are afoot in Nagpur. The main function will be held at historic Kasturchand Park Ground on Thursday, January 26. City cops have made tight security arrangements for the event. The first Republic Day in India was celebrated on Janaury 26, 1950 to honour the Constitution of the nation.

Speaking to Nagpur Today on the eve of Republuc Day, Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham said that as usual the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has sounded a General Alert in Nagpur and other parts of the country as well. Accordingly, the city police have initiated various security measures to ensure the event passes off without any untoward incident, the top cop said.

Extending his Republic Day greetings to citizens, the Commissioner of Police said that people must cooperate with police and play their role with responsibility. “Nagpur police are alert and increased security in the city. Teams of special city police RCB, QRT, BDDS will be deployed at various vantage points in the city. Action will be taken against road rage. Speed guns will keep a close watch on rash driving. Every effort is being made to maintain law and order in the Second Capital for celebrations of 68th Republuc Day,” Dr Venkatesham declared.
