Nagpur: There is a remarkable spurt in the incidents of tiger attacks in various forest ranges across Vidarbha. Blame it on poaching or intrusion of villagers into core areas, the big cats are fast turning into life-threatening beasts. In a similar such incident, a full grown tiger pounced upon an elderly woman while she was working in the field with her family members and dragged her into dense forests. Before the family could raise alarm, the tiger vanished into the jungle.

Sources reported that the tiger had managed to pull the woman around 500 meters far before it made the kill. Later the dead body of the woman was recovered as the villagers launched the hunt.

The villagers are miffed with the attitude of forest officials as no concerned staff from forest department turned up at the spot even 3 hours after the incident. The angry villagers also tried to block the road.

They have demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh and a government job to the kin of the deceased.
