Nagpur: A tiger was found dead near Rui village of Butibori in Nagpur Forest Division on Wednesday. As per the initial report, two nails of the big cat were missing while other body parts were intact. The spot is around 16 km away from Nagpur city.
According to information, a decomposed carcass was lying near the boundary wall of Eden Park in Butibori for the last 10 days. While repairing a power distribution point, a team of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited first encountered foul smell and then found the carcass near the boundary wall. The team, immediately, alerted the Forest Department.
Soon after, a team of foresters reached the spot. The team confiscated the carcass after conducting the panchnama of the area as per the SOP of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). The post-mortem also took place as per the SOP of NTCA. The tiger was approximately 4 to 5 years old.
As per the initial investigation, the cause of death of the tiger was natural. Due to the decomposition of the carcass it was difficult for the forest department to identify whether it’s a male or a female. Therefore, the department took the DNA samples of the carcass and it is waiting for the report.
The panchnama and other activities took place under the supervision of Dr Bharat Singh Hada, Deputy Conservator of Forest. Manoj Dhanvijay; Assistant Conservator of Forest, Umred; Vijay Gangawane, ACF, Nagpur; Sarika Wairagade, RFO, Seminary Hills; Pramod Wade, RFO, Butibori; Anil Dashahare; Ajinkya Bhatkar, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Nagpur; Mandar Pingle, Satpuda Foundation; and other staff of Nagpur Forest Division were present during the operation.
