Chandrapur: Human-wildlife conflict has intensified in Sindewahi taluka, where two people were killed in tiger attacks within 24 hours. After a farmer was killed in Palasgaon (Jat) on Saturday, an anganwadi worker was attacked and killed by a tiger while harvesting sesame in the Bhendala area on Sunday.
Premila Pundalik Mahadore, 56, worked as an anganwadi worker at the Bhendala anganwadi. As Sunday was a holiday, she had gone to the field with her husband, Pundalik Mahadore, to harvest sesame. At around 4 p.m., while her husband had gone to the motor near the well, the tiger, which was hiding near another field boundary, suddenly attacked her.
When his wife did not respond, her husband searched for her and found her dead in a pool of blood. Villagers rushed to the spot after learning about the incident. The Forest Department conducted a panchnama and sent the body to the Sindewahi Rural Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Earlier, on Saturday, Nanaji Narayan Kamdi, 55, was killed in a tiger attack at Palasgaon (Jat). The two incidents on consecutive days have created fear among farmers and farm labourers. As going to the fields during the harvest season has also become dangerous, residents are demanding immediate action to contain the tiger and financial assistance for the families of the deceased.
