Tiger Attack Kills Four Women Collecting Tendu Leaves in Chandrapur

Chandrapur, Maharashtra: In a tragic incident, four women were killed in a tiger attack while collecting tendu leaves in the Gunjewahi forest area of Sindewahi taluka on Friday morning. The horrifying incident has triggered panic and tension across nearby villages.

According to reports, villagers have been entering forest areas in large numbers as the seasonal tendu leaf collection activity has begun. On Friday, May 22, a group of women from Gunjewahi village had gone into the forest early in the morning to collect tendu leaves, as they did regularly during the season.

At around 8 AM, a tiger reportedly ambushed the women from dense bushes and launched a sudden attack. Eyewitnesses said the tiger attacked rapidly and aggressively, leaving the victims with no chance to escape.

All four women died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Kavdubai Dadaji Mohurle (45)
  • Anubai Dadaji Mohurle (46)
  • Sangeeta Santosh Chaudhary (36)
  • Sunita Kaushik Mohurle (33)

Following the incident, fear spread throughout the forest region and surrounding villages. Sindewahi Forest Range Officer Anjali Sayankar immediately reached the spot after receiving information about the attack. Forest officials, staff members, and police teams have launched an investigation and completed the preliminary inspection of the area.

The deaths of four women in a single attack have sparked anger and concern among local residents. The Forest Department has appealed to citizens to remain extremely cautious while entering forest areas and has intensified patrolling in the region.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about human-wildlife conflict and the safety of tendu leaf collectors during the forest produce season in the Sindewahi region.
