Nagpur: A sudden and intense spell of heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderous lightning struck Nagpur, significantly disrupting normal life. The downpour brought a noticeable drop in temperature but left the city grappling with various challenges.
Dark clouds began to gather over Nagpur around 4 pm, signalling the onset of severe weather. The rain started soon after, catching residents by surprise. The torrential rain led to widespread flooding, making it difficult for motorists to navigate through knee-deep water on the streets.
The squally conditions also caused power outages in several parts of the city, adding to the chaos. Low-lying areas were particularly affected, with many residents experiencing distress due to the inundation of their homes. Additionally, the strong winds uprooted numerous trees, although the full extent of property damage is still being assessed.
Despite the turmoil, the pre-monsoon rains have brought some relief from the oppressive heat that had been prevailing in the city. However, while conditions are conducive for the further advance of the southwest monsoon in some parts of Maharashtra, there has been no update on its arrival in the Vidarbha region, where Nagpur is located.
Authorities are working to restore normalcy and assess the damage caused by the sudden weather event. Meanwhile, residents are advised to stay cautious and updated on weather forecasts.
