Thousands gather at Deekshabhoomi to celebrate ‘Dhammachakra Pravartan Diwas’

Nagpur: Orange City witnessed the arrival of thousands of Buddha deities on the ‘Dhammachakra Pravartan Diwas’ celebrated on October 14. A crowd of thousands of followers were present at Deekshabhoomi to pay homage to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Lord Buddha. The 61st ‘Dhammachakra Pravartan Diwas’ attracted the deities from all over the nation from morning till late evening hours.

Notably, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, on this day, 61 years ago, received ‘deeksha’ of Buddhism along with lakhs of followers. Since then, the day is celebrated every year. It is to be mentioned that the day is also celebrated on Dusshera every year as it was being celebrated on this date 61 years ago.

Over the years, this ‘celebration’ of Budhism in Nagpur has attracted worldwide attention. It is being seen as one of the most significant Budhist gatherings internationally and Budhist priests from Thailand, Japan etc. also travel to India for it.

Meals were distributed to the followers and special security arrangements were also made. Several stalls were also installed selling the books written by Ambedakar.
