Janhvi Kapoor may be ready for Bollywood now, but there was a time when she could barely speak Hindi. An old video of Sridevi making fun of her daughter’s Hindi at an event has resurfaced on the internet, and is now going viral.

In the video, which dates back a few years, Janhvi is asked a question by reporters and told to answer in Hindi. “Ji, mujhe abhi pata nahi. Main abhi school mein padhai kar rahi hoon,” she is heard saying in very broken Hindi, as Sridevi interjected with, “Please don’t let her talk in Hindi.” The actress went on to imitate her daughter’s accent, as the reporters burst into peals of laughter.

When Sridevi passed away earlier this year, Janhvi penned an emotional note on how she not only lost her mother, but also her best friend. “There’s a gnawing hollowness in my chest that I know I’ll have to learn how to live with. Even with all this emptiness, I feel your love. I feel you protecting from sadness and pain. Every time I close my eyes, I have only good things to remember,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Janhvi recently wrapped up the shoot of Dhadak, which will mark her debut in Bollywood. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Dhadak is an adaptation of the Marathi blockbuster Sairat. Janhvi will be paired opposite Ishaan Khatter in the film.

Talking about his lead pair, director Shashank Khaitan had told Media, “They (Janhvi and Ishaan) are great people and are very hard-working, these are two things that I always look for in actors. They are good people who respect others and are dedicated to their work and ready to give their best.” He had also praised Janhvi and Ishaan for not coming on the sets with any baggage.

Dhadak, which is being jointly produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, is set to hit the screens on July 20, 2018.
