Third wave looms: Nagpur sees surge, 32 new Covid-19 cases reported on Sunday

Nagpur: Indicating the third wave ominously, Nagpur district registered a spike of 32 daily Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday after which the active case tally surpassed 100 after 128 days. Five Sharjah-returned flyers, at least four VNIT students and 13 cops who had returned from bandobast duties in Gondia for ZP elections were among those who tested positive.

On Saturday, Nagpur had registered 24 in one single day. Of the 32 cases, three persons who tested positive were not the residents of Nagpur district. Nagpur rural registered only two cases while 27 came positive in the city.

The surge on new cases on Sunday has resulted in a rise in the active cases. The active cases went beyond 100. The district has registered 104 active cases. Active cases had slipped to 98 on August 20.

For the second day, the recovery rate stood at 97.93%. With cases rising, active cases surging, recovery going down the only solace is on the death part. On the 43rd day, nobody became a victim to Covid-19 in the district.

The Nagpur district had witnessed 78 cases from December 1 to 24. The last two days have added 56 cases.

The third wave in Nagpur looms large if people violate norms. Festival time, New Year and vacation period can all trigger for a surge in cases. People should restrict themselves. Negligence might explode the cases, said an expert.
