Third dreaded criminal who had escaped from Nagpur Central Jail apprehended

Crime Branch Officials of Nagpur city police succeed in nabbing 3 out of five dreaded criminal who escaped from Nagpur Central Prison.

In what could be mentioned as the result of sheer hard-work and days of planning and execution, the third accused of the jail break was arrested on May 18, 2015. The hard work and strenuous efforts of Crime Branch, Nagpur City Police is certainly laudable. The Crime Branch cops succeeded in apprehending the third accused identified as Akash alias Golu Rajju Singh Thakur from his hiding place in Pandurna in Chhindwara District of Madhya Pradesh.

Immediately after the successful trap and arrest of two out of five dreaded criminals who had escaped from the Nagpur Central Prison, top Jail officials including Director General Police Meera Borwankar, Prison Superintendent Yogesh Desai had arrived in the city and had interrogated the two dreaded criminals to ascertain the modus operandi of the escape.

On May 16, 2015, the two of the five dreaded criminal who escaped from Nagpur Central Prison identified as Mohammed Shoaib alias Shibbu aged 25 years and Prem alias Nepali Salikram Khatri aged 21 years were taken to Nagpur Central Prison to re-enact the escape plan and route.

It could be recalled that the Nagpur Crime Branch succeeded in arresting two out of the five dreaded criminals who had managed to escape from Nagpur Central Prison identified as Mohammed Shoaib alias Shibbu aged 25 years and Prem alias Nepali Salikram Khatri aged 21 years came to a spot near Koradi near Bokaro Railway gate three days ago on May 14, 2015. The cops had managed to arrest the person who had sheltered them in Uttar Pradesh identified as Arman Munna Malik aged 22 years and a resident of near Urrai Mauni Temple, District Jalon Uttar Pradesh on May 14, 2015.

Success due to re-enactment of modus operandi by accused in jail-break
In-charge of Maharashtra State Prisons, Director General Police Meera Borwankar, Prison Superintendent Yogesh Desai and other senior police officials had swooped down to Nagpur Central Prison on May 16, 2015. The top brass of the state prisons interrogated the two dreaded criminals to find out the exact modus operandi used by the accused in the jail break. The cops had thoroughly interrogated the criminals and were made to show the entire jail break right from the planning, the smuggling of the hacksaw blade, the cutting of the iron bars, the escape route etc. This process took many hours. The criminals were made to show how they managed to scale the walls etc.

After that they were probed to ascertain, where they had escaped to. They were asked about the location of the remaining three prisoners, their abettors who had aided in their escape and sheltering after their escape etc.

The Crime Branch officials had probed all the leads of the case, followed all the information given by the informants, had gone as far as Bihar-Nepal Border.

Result of sustained interrogation
On sustained interrogation of the two accused arrested earlier, they revealed that the third accused identified as Akash alias Golu Rajju Singh Thakur is hiding in Pandurna in Chhindwara District of Madhya Pradesh. However, the accused claimed that they are not aware of the exact location of his house.

On the basis of the information Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deepali Masirkar and Assistant Police Commissioner Nilesh Raut decided to investigate the information. So they formed a squad to undertake a search operation. They gave the orders to undertake a tight search and leave no stones unturned to find the location of third accused in Pandurna in Chhindwara District of Madhya Pradesh.

After receiving their orders, Police Inspector Dhole, Police Inspector Tathod and Police Sub-Inspector Mangesh Desai left the city with two squads early in the morning before sunrise. The cops of the two squads were travelling in two un-marked government vehicles and were disguised as normal people.

On reaching Pandurna, they searched many places. They investigated and searched all the slum areas, the neighbouring areas, the Bus-stands and other auto-stands etc.

Suddenly their search ended when they saw Akash alias Rajju Thakur moving furtively and surreptitiously on the road leading to the Bus Stand. The cops formed a ring around the accused. They watched him carefully for a long time. Each cop took their place and geared up to face any evasive action of the accused. Akash never realized that he has been surrounded by cops and that he has already fallen into their dragnet. The cops closed down on the accused reducing the circumference of the ring. Finally, before Akash could even realize or attempt to escape, the cops of Crime Branch nabbed him, stuffed him in their vehicle and rushed to the city after informing the local police station.

There are nearly 14 cases of vehicle lifting and one case of looting or mugging totaling 15 cases registered against him in various police stations. Further investigations are being undertaken under the guidance of Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Shrikant Tarwade.
