Nagpur: A minor quarrel between two teenagers at a Kamptee-based pharmacy college has led New Kamptee Police to uncover a disturbing WhatsApp group inspired by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, where minors were trading information on online weapon “bargains” and circulating obscene video clips.

The matter came to light after New Kamptee police inspector Mahesh Andhale intervened in the campus scuffle and examined the mobile phones of the involved teenagers. The inspection revealed a WhatsApp group with 24 minors aged 16–17, engaging in conversations about weapon purchases and daily video calls discussing personal issues—behaviour police described as “highly alarming.”

Inspector Andhale said the trend of youngsters idolising criminal figures is fuelled by irresponsible social media glorification. “Discussing weapon deals and having video chats to talk about their daily issues was very unusual. All of them come from lower middle-class families. I counselled them about their responsibilities and the future that awaits them,” he said.

All 24 minors were summoned along with their parents and counselled at the police station. Andhale added that under Operation Thunder, police are required not just to curb offences but also to guide youths and address the mindset that may lead to future crimes. “Had this not surfaced in time, several bright futures could have been derailed,” he noted.

Police Launch New Educational Group to Redirect Teenagers:

To provide the youngsters with a constructive alternative, New Kamptee Police have now created a new WhatsApp group dedicated to studying the lives of India’s freedom fighters. Head Constable Dipti Motghare will administer the group, and the same 24 teenagers will be assigned to research and deliver short presentations on different national heroes at the police station.

Zone 6 Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Sandeep Pakhale has praised the initiative, calling it an effective step toward shaping young minds and preventing delinquency.

This proactive approach by New Kamptee Police aims to steer at-risk teenagers away from criminal influences and encourage disciplined, informed, and socially responsible behaviour.
