Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Secy P Rama Mohana Rao suspended after income tax raids.

Girija Vaidyanathan, Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Land Administration has been appointed Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu in his place , a government order said.

This comes after the income tax department on Wednesday carried out raids at the residence and office of P Rama Mohana Rao, the residence of his son Vivek in the city, and the latter’s in-laws’ house in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

Tax officials said Rs 30 lakh in new Rs 2,000 notes, five kilograms of gold and documents with details of undisclosed assets worth about Rs 5 crore were recovered during the raids carried out at 11 places.

Girija Vaidyanathan is an officer of the 1981 batch of Indian Administrative Service (IAS). She has about two-and-a-half years to go for retirement.

She will also hold full additional charge of Vigilance Commissioner and Commissioner for Administrative Reforms.
