Table Tennis Championship: Nagpur’s Ikshika bags national bronze

Nagpur: Ikshika Umate of Nagpur secured a bronze medal in the 3rd National Ranking Table Tennis Championships that concluded at Holkar Stadium, Indore.

Participating in the Under-17 girls singles category, Ikshika’s brilliant run in the tournament ended in semi-finals. In the pre-quarters, Ikshika rallied from being two games down to win 3-2 against Himanshi Choudhary. The scores read 7-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-6, 11- 9. In the quarter-finals, Ikshika improved a lot to record a comfortable 3-1 victory over Shreya Dhar with scores reading 11-7, 14-12, 11-13, 11-8.

In the semi-finals, Ikshika lost to Riana Buta 2-3 (9-11, 11-8, 5- 11, 11-4, 12-14) in the extended decider and had to be satisfied with a bronze. It is a proud moment for Nagpur District Table Tennis Association, remarked Adv Akhilesh Potnis, Secretary of both MSTTA and NDTTA while congratulating Ikshika. Ikshika thanked Potnis, Deepak Kanetkar, parents and coaches for their valuable guidance.
