Symbiosis campus is golden letter day for Nagpur: Dr Mujumdar

“The Second Capital City of Nagpur should have a branch of Symbiosis was my long cherished dream. That personal dream of mine today has come true. A new chapter has been opened in the history of Nagpur education. Today is a golden letter day for the historic city of Nagpur and a golden moment for Symbiosis as the foundation stone for the campus of the prestigious institute has been laid,” said Dr S B Mujumdar, Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International University. He was speaking at the bhumipujan ceremony of Symbiosis campus in city on Friday. The campus is being set up at the NMC allotted 75-acre land in Wathoda.

Other dignitaries seated on the dais include Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Principal Director of Symbiosis Society Vidya Yeravdekar, Registrar Dr Rajani Gupte, RTMNU Vice Chancellor Dr Sidharthvinayak Kane and other prominent personalities.

“The Nagpur campus will be the second largest campus of the Symbiosis after its Pune campus. It will be first time in the history of Symbiosis that out of the total student intake, 25 per cent seats will be reserved for Nagpur-domiciled residents along with 15 per cent concession in academic fees,” Vidya Yeravdekar said. “Students of Nagpur do not need to go to cities like Pune or Mumbai to seek quality education,” she added.

Yeravdekar said “The Nagpur campus will offer courses in management (BBA-MBA), law (BA LLB and BBA LLB), design (fashion & textile), skill development in fields of health, information technology and communication.” Students passing out of the varsity will provide a talent pool of professionals required for jobs in the second capital of Maharashtra. Similarly, Nagpur is an aviation hub and hence courses in aviation and airport logistics along with a top notch architecture centre will also be set up here, Yeravdekar said.

Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said, “With the coming of Symbiosis campus in city, the educational field will get a boost. The process to bring Symbiosis campus in city was going since the past one and half years. Interestingly, the campus is being set up at a place that was being used for city’s sewerage since 1976. The Symbiosis has completely changed the standard of the place. A sports centre is being developed in a nearby 140-acre land. The Bhandewadi Project has totally got a facelift. The process for generating power from “Waste to Energy” project. This is a further step ahead for turning Nagpur a Smart City,” Hardikar said.
