If something doesn’t happen in the Govt. we have to find out why it doesn’t happen, we have to find the problem. There is no dearth of ideas in a democracy, but we have no clue how to work it out. Hence, once we have an idea, “we have to see that it is politically acceptable, socially desirable, technologically feasible, financially viable, administratively doable and judicially tenable” which Anil Swarup, said are the six principles to make things work in the Govt.

Anil Swarup, IAS (retd.) addressed the public at a Talk, “Making Things Happen in the Govt.” organized by the Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED). Mr. Swarup is Ex-Secretary Dept. of School Education & Literacy, GoI and Ex-Secretary, Ministry of Coal, now retired and an author and a great favorite as a speaker on a private TV channel.

To make a demand politically acceptable one has to convince the politician of the benefits of the idea. For this one must understand the limits of the politician and package the idea in such a way that he buys it. The demand should be made according to the needs of society i.e. make it socially desirable. In making it technologically feasible one must see what technology will work and where. One must work within the limits of the Govt. or one would be wasting time, so one must understand the situation and act accordingly.

Swarup further suggested that instead of doubting, one should trust each other. Trust first as even the worst has some good in them and a good leader brings out that good in a person. He also said that one has to find out what excites one, in short, one has to find one own kick. He said today technology allows one to remain totally transparent.

The programme was held at Tamarind Hall, Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines, Nagpur. This was followed by the launch of Mr. Anil Swarup’s book, “Not Just A Civil Servant” at the hands of Chief Guest, Mr. R. R. Mishra, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Western Coalfields.

Swarup lauded the depth, sincerity and dedication of VED. Prominently present at the programme were VED members, Shivkumar Rao, President, Rahul Upganlawar, Secretary-General, Vilas Kale, PP, Govind Daga, PP, Devendra Parekh, IPP, Pankaj Mahajan, V-P, Navin Malewar, Treasurer, Varun Vijaywargi, Jt.
