Supreme Court grants bail to one accused in Pintu Shirke murder case

Nagpur: In the much talked about Swapnil alias Pintu Shirke murder case, one the accused identified as Mahesh Bante has been granted bail by the Supreme Court on January 27, 2016.

It could be recalled that on September 8, 2002, Pintu Shirke was murdered in the Sixth Floor of Nagpur District Court. It was also revealed in the investigation that Raju Bhadre was the main accused in the murder. In this case  the Nagpur District Court had convicted Raju Bhadre, Vijay Matte and nine other accused in the murder case by awarding life imprisonment t them.

The nine accused included Mahesh Bante too. Mahesh Bante is said to be the nephew of Vijay Matte. The accused had later appealed to the High Court. On June 27, 2015, the High Court sustained the punishment of Life Imprisonment awarded by the District Court. The High Court had granted them a period of two months to surrender themselves.

Some of the accused did surrender themselves to the High Court. However, Vijay Matte is still absconding. Mahesh Bante who was in the prison had appealed to the court for bail. Based on his appeal, during a hearing before Justice N Y Iqbal and Justice Arun Mishra, the Supreme Court has granted him bail.
