Summer blues: NMC reviews preparations for Heat Action Plan in city

Nagpur: As the Second Capital of State is witnessing rising temperatures with the onset of summer in the city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has geared up to tackle the scorching summer heat with its Heat Action Plan.

Dr Abhijit Chaudhari, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, on Wednesday chaired a review meeting of Nagpur’s Heat Action Plan. In the meeting, Dr Chaudhari reviewed the preparations to implement the heat action plan during summer. He interacted with different departments regarding their preparedness before the summer season. Dr Chaudhari asked all departments to spread awareness about the health issues that take place due to heat waves. He asked the officials to use banners and placards and advertisements on bus stands, railway station, government offices and other public places to spread awareness about the scorching heat.

He also asked to release an advisory for citizens which will be available in all hospitals and public places. Dr Chaudhari instructed the Health Department to get ready to handle heat stroke and other heat related diseases in city and also guide the city hospitals to get ready to avoid any incident and such cases. He instructed all departments like Police, Health, Garden Department, Traffic Department, MSEDCL, to keep coordination during summer as per the Heat Action Plan.

Nagpur city is also among the non-attainment cities’ list of National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) of the Central Government. Under this list, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) asked all non-attainment cities to mitigate pollution and also to prepare their Heat Action Plan. Under the instruction of CPCB, Nagpur city’s plan was prepared by CSIR-NEERI and the civic body is taking action accordingly every year.
