Nagpur
: While the Traffic Department is striving to maintain traffic for smooth movement of vehicular traffic, some unscrupulous people, road-side vendors and traders break laws and infringe upon foot-paths and parking space to set-up shops selling good.

A glaring example of this street vendors, fruits and vegetable vendors infringing upon by parking space was observed at the road in front of Empress City Mall.

Suddenly there seems to a boom or good yield of Sugar-cane which the farmers or traders have bought to Nagpur for sale. All the Sugarcane juice vendors and other customers crowd in front of these sugar-cane sellers. However, the Sugarcane traders have set-up the sale in the parking space and the footpaths in front of Empress City Mall.

Those who are traversing the road stretch for the last two months are facing innumerable and harrowing experience. It takes at least 45 minutes to pass the stretch from NMC (LBT-Office) to Shukravari Lake (North-East end).

To add to that since these Sugarcane vendors have occupied the space meant for the parking of two-wheelers and four-wheelers, they are left with no other alternative but to park their vehicles on the other side. Here these vehicle owners run the risk of getting their vehicle towed away or picked-up for parking in no-parking area.

Are the NMC authorities sleeping?

It seems that NMC authorities are sleeping over this infringement of parking space. While they succeeded in Sitabuldi area, are they not supposed to look at every place where these hawkers and vendors are occupying foot-paths and road-sides preventing smooth flow of traffic?

DCP (Traffic) assures of immediate action

When pointed out, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bharat Tangde assured of immediate action in clearing away the vendors and hawkers from the parking space in order to clear the road for smooth movement of traffic. However, he also pointed out that they have been pointing such kind of places to NMC officials where hawkers and vendors are encroaching upon foot-paths and parking spaces, which the NMC officials or authorities seem to be ignoring so far. He added that road users at places like Gokulpeth, Dharampeth, Sitabuldi, Gaddigodam, Sadar and other areas too face similar problems.
