Nagpur: High drama was witnessed at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Campus of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) on Monday, September 29 when the Student Council elections held.
Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Student Federation alleged that unfair election was conducted by Election Officer Dr Welukar, who is also the Student Welfare Officer. This allegation led to agitation by the members of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Student Federation in the Campus. Registrar Ashok Gomashe had to intervene to calm the students.
On Monday, Student Council elections were held at various colleges in Nagpur. In Campus, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) Varsha Motwani and Shudhodan Prakash of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Student Federation were in the fray for the college secretary’s post. However, according to information, Shudhodan’s nomination papers were found flawed with an error in date of birth, making Varsha Motwani winner by default.
The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Student Federation has demanded re-election. After Dr Welukar had assured the students that a three-member committee will look into the issue and give its decision soon, the students withdrew the agitation.
However, the students’ federation had warned if no decision is taken soon on this issue, they will go for strong protests in the coming days.
