Nagpur: A visibly displeased Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a stern warning in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, cautioning MLAs against repeatedly invoking the State Government’s flagship Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahini Yojana during unrelated discussions.
The House fell silent after Fadnavis sharply interrupted BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar, who mentioned the scheme while speaking on alleged illegal liquor distribution, and declared that casual political references to the programme would not be tolerated.
“If this continues, you will have to sit at home,” he warned, sending a strong message across the House.
The outburst followed similar remarks earlier by Congress MLA Jyoti Gaikwad, which had already triggered irritation from the Chief Minister. Calling the scheme a major welfare initiative that must not be used for political one-upmanship, Fadnavis said:
“This scheme will continue. It will not affect funds for any other programme. But unnecessary comments or misuse of its name will not be tolerated.”
Following the warning, not a single member referenced the scheme for the rest of Question Hour.
The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahini Yojana provides Rs 1,500 monthly financial assistance to eligible women from economically weaker sections across Maharashtra.
