Stern Action: OCW lodges complaint against cashier at Sadar police station

Nagpur: The Orange City Water which is committed to provide safe, clean, sufficient potable water at every tap, is working as an operator for NMC’s Uninterrupted Water Supply Project wherein the responsibility of Water treatment, its distribution, billing and bill collection is with OCW.

OCW also firmly believe and follow an environment which is totally corruption-free. OCW always encourages corruption-free and transparent working environment and does not tolerate any malpractice in any of its operation verticals. OCW has vigilantly put corruption-free practices in place with the help from Nagpur Municipal Corporation/Nagpur Environmental Services Limited, local authorities and the consumers.

However, recently a strong vigilance team of OCW itself detected a malpractice by cashier (based in Mangalwari zone CCC) who alleged to have embezzled bill amount paid by consumer against water bills amounting to around Rs.75,000/-. It may be mentioned here OCW following its trend of corruption-free services, immediately not only discontinued its services but also lodged complaint against him at Sadar police station.

It is learnt that one of the cashiers from Mangalwari zone CCC was caught of using the amount paid by consumers against water bill for his personal use. OCW suspected malpractice and investigated the matter with consumers of an Apartment at Civil Lines. During the primary investigations, it was found that the bill amount already paid by them was not reflecting in system. The matter was then thoroughly investigated. It was found that the Cashier was involved in malpractices with 15 other consumers as well. In this regard OCW IMMEDIATELY lodged complaint against accused with Sadar Police Station.

officially. He was found guilty. When confronted, OCW forced him to deposit the embezzled amount along with the delayed payment charges due. The same amount was immediately deposited in the accounts of the 16 consumers who had earlier deposited the money with the Cashier.

Taking this incident in consideration, OCW immediately discontinued the practice of receiving water bills against manual receipts where system is in place. Instead only system generated receipts will be provided to consumers paying water bills hereafter.

OCW CEO Mr Sanjoy Roy stated that OCW does not encourage any kind of malpractices from anyone directly or indirectly working for OCW. If anyone notices or encounters such sort of happenings they should positively inform the OCW Toll free number 1800-266-9899 or nearest OCW zonal offices with proofs. The services of concerned person, found guilty by OCW management will be discontinued with immediate effect as such practices can never be encouraged to be part of system operated in completely transparent and ethical manner.

Further it may be mentioned here that 24×7 Helpline facility (Toll Free No) 1800-266-9899 provided by OCW is all set to handle and resolve the complaints received from citizens regarding water supply. Citizens are requested to use the facility to register any of their complaints related to water.
