Nagpur: On the strength of its strong performance, Mumbai City teams achieved double success by winning the championship in both the women and men’s divisions as it was curtains on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Cup State-level Kabaddi Tournament held at Sevanand Vidyalaya, Koradi.
The championship was jointly organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Nagpur Division, Amateur Kabaddi Association of Vidarbha and Nagpur Rural Kabaddi Association.
In the women’s final, Mumbai City defeated Mumbai Suburbs 32-29. Sweety Saran, Tannu and Harmeet Sandhu of Mumbai City played excellently well and led the team to the podium. Yashika Pujari and Pratiksha Tandel performed remarkably well for Mumbai Suburbs. In the semi-final match, Mumbai Suburbs defeated Pune 24-22 while Mumbai City defeated Ratnagiri 26-21 to enter the final.
In the men’s category Mumbai City thrashed Pune in a one sided summit clash. Mumbai City dominated the show and claimed the title 33-17. Pankaj Mohite, Sushant and Sahil Rane played well for Mumbai City. Balaji Jadhav showed courage for Pune. In the semi-final, Mumbai City defeated Ahilya Nagar 30-26 and Pune ousted Mumbai Suburbs 42-22. The winners in both the categories received Rs 1.5 lakh each while the runners-up teams got Rs one lakh each.
Revenue Minister and Guardian Minister of Nagpur District Chandrashekhar Bawankule presented individual prizes to the winning teams as well as outstanding players. President of Nagpur Rural Kabaddi Association Sanket Bawankule, Deputy Director of Sports Pallavi Dhatrak, Municipal Sports Officer Piyush Ambulkar and Satish Duffle were specially felicitated for their hard work in making the meet a grand success. Praveen Kitchal, Dhanraj Wankhede, Narendra Bhad, Dilip Chavan, Roshan Paswan, Akash Bunde, Naresh Gaidhane, Pranay Bhongale and Rajesh Revatkar were also felicitated.
Chandrapur District Sports Officer Avinash Pund and Wardha District Sports Officer Asha Meshram were also present.
