State kabaddi: Nagpur men march on, Women go down fighting against Ratnagiri

Nagpur: Continuing their winning streak, Nagpur defeated Pune 31-22 in ongoing 18th Chhatrapati Shivaji Trophy State-level Kabaddi Tournament jointly organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Nagpur and Vidarbha Amateur Kabaddi Association at Chitnis Park on Saturday.

However Nagpur women went down fighting against Ratnagiri 20-22. Nagpur men dominated the proceedings right from the beginning. They were leading by 22-10 in the first half.

Shashank Wankhede, Mahesh Varutkar, Hemant Dhoke and Sumant Thavre played well for Nagpur.

In other matches, Gondia defeated Sangli 20-15 whereas Mumbai Suburb got the better of Akola 40-16. Ratnagiri recorded ons-sided 40-20 victory over Bhandara. Raigad pipped Amravati 12.7

In women section, Ratnagiri were leading by 17-10 in the first half. However in the later part of game, Nagpur women bounced back but ultimately fell two point short. The efforts of Pinki Bante, Sakshi Shende, Shilpa Wadke and Divya Pathrabe went in vain.

In other matches, Ahmadnagar thrashed Washim 5-14 by 47 points. Mumbai City got rid of Amravati 47-19 whereas Mumbai Suburb downed Wardha 12-9.
