State Jr athletics meet on Aug 28, 29

d244109-largeNagpur: Nagpur District Athletics Association (NDAA) under the auspices of Maharashtra Athletic Association is organising State Junior Athletics Championship on August 28 and 29 at RTM Nagpur University track, Amravati road.

Addressing media persons lifetime president of NDAA Dr Babanrao Taywade said around 1,000 athletes from 32 districts are expected to participate in the two day championship. Total 14 events including 100 m, 200m, 400m, 800 m, 200 m, 3km/ 5 km walk, javeline, throw, discus throw, high jump, long jump midlerelay, pentathlon and long jump will be organised.

The athletes will be arriving in the city on August 27 and the actual events will start at 4 p.m. on august 28. Some event will be organised under the floodlight also. The inaugural function will be held at 3 p.m. and prior to that technical committee meeting will be held at 11 a.m. followed by team manager’s meeting at 12 noon.

Technical committee head Satish Ucchil (Mumbai suburb) will address the technical committee meeting while Prof. Uttamsingh Thakur (Amravati) will guide the managers.

The prize distribution function will be organised on August 29 at 1.30 p.m. Team championship winner will get Dr Sanjay Bhotmange Memorial trophy. Apart from it there will be individual prizes for best sprinter, best endurance, best runner, best thrower, best jumper. Best athletes in the boys and girls categories will be honoured on the occasion. During the meet Maharashtra team will be selected for the nationals.

Principal of St Xavier’s High School Pallavi Dadhe said that school band will perform during the opening ceremony. The school squads of RSP, scout and guide will give guard of honour to the dignitaries.

The two day event will be organised in association with Maitri Parivar, Maskati Shipping, Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN), Maskati Shipping, Dr Dande Foundation, St Xavier’s and Ishwar Deshmukh College of Physicla Education.

Sanjay Nakhate of Maitri Parivar, dr Pinak Dande of Dande Foundation, SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur, NDAA president LR Malviya, secretary Dr Sharad Suryavanshi and others were also present at the press conference.
