Mumbai: Sridevi’s final journey has begun with a decorated truck carrying the iconic actor’s mortal remains to the Vile Parle crematorium, where the final rites will take place at 3:30 pm. Superstars like Rekha, Hema Malini, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Akshay Khanna, Sonam Kapoor, Tabu, Jacqueline Fernandez and many more had earlier arrived for the prayer meeting being held at the Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala. Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Mohit Marwah are among family members who had already visited Boney Kapoor’s residence earlier this morning to pay their respects.
The Kapoors had announced that well-wishers can visit the Celebration Club near Sridevi’s home, where a prayer meeting will be held between 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The prayer hall has since opened its doors to allow the grieving public to pay their last respects to the late actor. Sridevi, monikered Indian cinema’s first woman superstar, is survived by her husband Boney Kapoor and their two daughters Jahnvi and Khushi. The family said media can also pay their respects “provided camera, recording devices etc. are left outside the venue”.

The funeral cortege of Sridevi leaves the Celebration Sports Club for the Pawan Hans crematorium. Sridevi, who will be accorded a state funeral, was draped in the tricolour.
The flower-draped cortege heads to the crematorium. The funeral is expected to take place at around 3:30 pm, 7 km away near Pawan Hans, Vile Parle West.
And that’s the final glimpse of Sridevi dressed like a bride, adorned in a red and gold kanjeevaram sari. The orange that you see at the right hand side of the image is the tricolour she has been draped in. She is being accorded a state funeral.

Thousands of fans outside the Celebration Sports Club. The police had to resort to a lathicharge when the crowds became unruly after the gates to the club were shut at 12:30 pm ending the time for public to pay homage to Sridevi.
Janhvi, Boney, Arjun, Anil escort Sridevi on her last journey
Behind the glass coffin holding Sridevi’s body, is her daughter Janhvi Kapoor with Boney Kapoor. A very difficult time for the family and her friends after Sridevi’s sudden death on Saturday and the delay in the repatriation of the body. Jhanvi makes her film debut with Dhadak, a romantic drama produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, slated for release on 20 July.

A news agency reported that at the Celebration Sports Club in Andheri where the body had been lying in state, fashion designer Manish Malhotra broke down as did filmmaker Karan Johar. Sridevi’s daughter Jahnvi Kapoor will debut in a romantic drama, Dhadak, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Manish Malhotra couture has been a Sridevi favourite.
