A speeding truck knocked a woman to death and injuring her 17 year old son on Thursday night in Indira Nagar area under Hudkeshwar police station. The woman was riding pillion with her son towards Narsala from Mhalgi Nagar when her scooter was hit by a speeding truck from behind. The woman died on the spot while her son sustained serious injuries. The driver, who fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind, was arrested later. Hudkeshwar police have seized the truck. Following the accident, the angry mob gathered on the spot and started pelting stones. Later the police dispersed them after assuring strict action against the driver.
The deceased identified as Vijaya Devidas Gujarkar, 43 was approaching towards her home around 9.15 pm on Thursday along with her son Bhushan who was riding the scooter. Around the same time the speeding truck (no. CG 04, JD 3588) approaching from behind hit the two-wheeler as the truck driver could not apply the brakes in time. The impact of collision dragged Vijaya under the wheels of heavy vehicle and she died on the spot. Bhushan was thrown apart and received injuries.
Hudkeshwar police have registered the case against the truck driver, identified as Krishna. Sources said large numbers of trucks are being parked on this road despite ban. Clutter of these heavy vehicles often results in freak accidents, they informed.
