Speeding tipper truck crushes woman to death in full public view near Panchsheel Square

Nagpur: In a ghastly accident, a woman was crushed to death by a speeding tipper truck in full public view near busy Panchsheel Theatre on Sunday evening. The woman’s niece was also injured in the mishap. Vehicular traffic was disrupted for sometime as onlookers gathered at the spot in hundreds. The driver of the killer truck was caught by the people and handed over to police after a dressing down.

The deceased has been identified as Nanda Murlidhar Kumbhare (46), resident of Paush Apartment, opposite Apna Bhandar, Trimurti Nagar.

According to police, Nanda had gone to Sitabuldi market with her niece Pooja Naresh Kumbhare, resident of Ramtek, on Activa moped (MH-31/TY 7539) on Sunday. The duo was returning to Nanda’s home around 6.45 pm. As the duo reached near in front of the IOC petrol pump near Panchasheel Square, a recklessly driven tipper truck (MH31/CQ 6990) hit their Activa from behind. Following the impact, both Nanda and Pooja fell on the road. Unfortunately, Nanda came under the rear wheels of the tipper-truck while Pooja sustained minor injuries as she was thrown at the other side on the road. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital where Nanda was declared brought dead by the doctors while Pooja is undergoing treatment. The mishap led to disruption of vehicular traffic as a crowd of onlookers gathered at the spot. Some of the passersby caught the driver of the tipper truck and gave him a good bashing before handing him over to police. The driver has been identified as Nandu Chivni Goyal (38), resident of Shiva Trust Layout, Pandhrabodi, Ambazari.

Dhantoli PSI A K Wadaskar has booked the tipper truck driver under Sections 279, 304(A) of the IPC read with Sub-Section 184 of Motor Vehicles Act and placed him under arrest.
