Special artifacts created by artists gathering dust in workshop

Nagpur: Former NMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and the then Mayor Pravin Datke had joined hands and organised competition in December’s third week 2016 to create artifacts from waste material lying in NMC premises. Now nearly a year has passed but the present administration and Mayor have not shown interest to beautify the squares with this. The artifacts here are gathering dust and will once again turn into waste.

To create artifacts from waste NMC had called 14 scrap artists from Lucknow, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai, Baroda, Hyderabad, along 4 local artists. The artists Created the artifacts at the NMC’s workshop at great Nag road. Rajesh Gurmule the chief of workshop had made all arrangement under the guidance of NMC administration.

The artifacts were to be installed at various places but since the construction of cement road was yet to be completed they remained in workshop beautifying the place. During this period Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar got transferred and the then Mayor Pravin Datke’s term got over. Once again BJP has come to power in NMC, but nobody is interested in beautifying the places with artifacts. The then Commissioner had met the present Mayor last month and demanded that the artifacts be installed. Mayor even went to the workshop, saw the creations from waste but once they are lying gathering dust as waste material. Moreover, instead of being appreciated they are neglected.

The artist called from various places were given to and fro fare and honorarium of Rs 20,000 to 25,000. The arrangement of electricity along other facilities were made for the artistes were the waste lay. The lodging and boarding arrangements were made by Nagpur Residential Hotels Association. Even the announcement was made for installing the creative pieces.
