Six booked for organizing banned Shankarpat, ill treating animals

Kuhi police have booked six members of a committee indulged in organising bullock cart race, commonly known as Shankarpat which were banned for cruelty meted out to the animals in the process.

Chandramani Doma Nagrale and 5 other members of Shankarpat committee at Chikna, 26 kms off here under Kuhi police station were booked their involvement in the activity which was banned by the Supreme Court.

It is alleged that besides conducting the banned race, they also ill-treat animals by goading them and forcing them to run constantly.

Kuhi police have registered offences against the accused under sections 188, 289 and 34 of IPC and sections 3(11) (A) (3) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, sections 100, 119 of Bombay Police Act. Kuhi police are searching for the accused. Police officer, Jadhav is investigating into the matter.
