Over 700 hearing impaired children nationwide will participate for competitive sports

Speech and hearing impairment has never been the barrier for these kids, and it is clearly reflected in the sports meet Silent Olympiad for Hearing Impaired (SILO) hosted by Bombay North Round Table 19(BRT-19), an association of Round Table India, a non- profit organization. This year the event will be held on February 5 2019 in Mumbai and over 700 hearing impaired children are likely to participate.

Since 41years, BRT-19, have been conducting SILO, where more than 25 schools across India participate for various competitive sports. It’s an annual event organised with the sole purpose of giving children an opportunity to assimilate with the mainstream kids.

“We reach out various schools months in advance and their coaches train them to their fullest potential, and on the day of the event you would see how pepped-up these kids are to participate in sporting events,” says Samrath Kedia, the chairman of BRT -19.

Their determination and achievements dwarf their disabilities. Hailing from remote villages these kids come from an underprivileged background and are even deprived of basic necessities and BRT-19 understand this pulse and also equip these kids with sports gear and sports shoes.

With every passing year, the audience is largely amazed by how the routines by these kids are kept. It’s startling to see how these kids follow the instructions and participate wholeheartedly.

“The main purpose of the event is to make our society more inclusive, and what more but sports can get them inclusive that make the world realize that they are just like one amongst us, “concludes Kedia.

National President of Round Table India Mr. Dhruv Dalmia and Round Table India Area 3 Chairman Aditya Jhunjhunwala shall be honouring with their presence at the event.
