Nagpur.

Chief executive officer of National Livelihood Mission (NLM), Mumbai, Shravan Pramod Hardikar will take over as the new municipal commissioner of the city. The present municipal commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation Shyam Wardhane has been moved to the post of chairman of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT). Likewise, NIT chairman Dr Harshdeep Kamble has been shifted to Maharashtra state mining corporation as its managing director. Interestingly, Dr Kamble was recently made the chairman of NIT.
The government order clearly states that till Hardikar takes over as the municipal commissioner of NMC, Wardhane will remain in charge. Only after handing over the charge to Hardikar, Wardhane can move to NIT.
It may be noted that after Sanjeev Jayaswal was shifted from Nagpur to Aurangabad as commissioner, the post of municipal commissioner remained vacant for at least a year. Later, the responsibility was given to Wardhane. The LBT was imposed during Wardhane’s tenure plunging the NMC into a sort of financial crisis.
However, it is to the credit of Wardhane that he did not stop salaries of the NMC employees for even a month. Wardhane had maintained a fine balance between developmental works, salaries and administrative expenses and had systematically saved ` 100 crore.
He raised the collection from property tax which reached a whopping ` 190 crore. Wardhane was responsible for bringing in discipline and punctuality in the NMC.

Satisfied with my tenure: Wardhane
Wardhane said that he was satisfied with his tenure as the municipal commissioner. He said that in spite of financial crisis, he tried to complete works under the JNNURM projects and paid salaries on time.
He said that the NMC employees and officials co-operated with him fully. Wardhane said that he will try to fulfill the responsibility as NIT chairman to the best of his ability.
