Nagpur: A 53-year-old grocery shop owner was injured after being allegedly attacked with a knife by a juvenile suspect during an early-morning burglary attempt at his shop in Lendenagar, under the jurisdiction of Kapilnagar Police Station, on Friday.

The incident occurred around 5 am on October 23 at Goldi Kirana Stores, located at Plot No. 6/12, Lendenagar, where the shopkeeper, Pramod Zhadhuji Nagbhide, resides.

According to the police, Nagbhide was asleep at home when he heard the sound of the shop’s shutter being moved. On stepping outside to investigate, he noticed a moped parked in front of the shop and found the shutter partially open.

When he raised an alarm, one of the intruders allegedly crawled out from beneath the shutter and fled. Nagbhide managed to catch the second suspect as he attempted to escape from inside the shop.

However, the detained suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked Nagbhide, injuring him. The accused then attempted to flee on an Access two-wheeler. As the shopkeeper tried to stop him, the two-wheeler fell to the ground.

Responding to Nagbhide’s cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot and caught the suspect before handing him over to the police.

During questioning, police established that the detained suspect was a juvenile in conflict with the law. Further inquiry revealed that the accomplice who escaped was also a juvenile.

After receiving treatment for his injuries, Nagbhide checked his shop and discovered that Rs 1,300 had been stolen from the cash counter.

Following the shopkeeper’s complaint, Kapilnagar Police registered a case against both juveniles under Sections 305(a), 331(3), 118 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

Police are searching for the absconding juvenile, and further investigation is underway.
