Nagpur: Shomita Biswas, IFS of 1988 batch, took over the additional charge of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Head of Forest Force) from the outgoing HoFF Shailesh Tembhurnikar on Wednesday. With this additional charge, Biswas became the first woman forest chief in the history of the Maharashtra Forest Department.
Before assuming the charge of HoFF, she worked as PCCF and CEO of Compensatory Afforestation Funds Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA). She has effectively implemented components of CAMPA in the State while efficiently coordinating with State and Central Governments.
In addition, she has also worked in various senior roles in Government of India like Chief Executive Officer (CEO), National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of Ayush, Delhi and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India.
The outgoing HoFF Tembhurnikar was felicitated with shawl and shreefal by Biswas. Mahip Gupta, PCCF (Wildlife), M Srinivasa Rao, PCCF (Production and Management); P Kalyan Kumar, APCCF (Budget, Planning and Development); and Naresh Zurmure, APCCF (Nodal Officer) were present during the event.
