Shocking: Woman throws son in well before ending life

nagpur-shameNagpur: In a heart-rending incident, a woman threw her eight-month old toddler son in a well before ending her own life by jumping into the well. The incident occurred in Swamidham Nagri in the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar police station.

The deceased, Prajakta Arun Deshmukh, is a native of Amravati and her toddler son is Sarvesh. Her husband Atul Deshmukh is a native of Bhandara and is a software engineer. The couple also has a five-year-old daughter Aranvi. The family has been residing in Georgia in US for the last four years. Prajakta”s brother too stays with them in the US.

Prajakta”s father underwent a surgery in Amravati a month ago for some ailment. At that time, Prajakta had not been able to visit her ailing father, for which she was feeling very bad. Feeling for his wife, Atul had sent her to India along with the kids. Since then, Prajakta and her kids were in Amravati.

On August 11, Atul too came down to India. After staying at his in-laws” place for a few days, he came to his sister Shilpa”s place in Nagpur for Raksha Bandhan on August 19 along with his wife and kids. Shilpa resides in Swamidham Nagri.

On Saturday evening, Atul took Aranvi and his nephew to Kasturchand Park, whereas Prajakta and Sarvesh stayed back. A little after they left for KP, Prajakta too stepped out of the house along with her son, telling Shilpa that she was going to the market to buy rakhi.

However, Shilpa had told her that she need not go out as she had extra rakhis at home. Prajakta, nevertheless, went out giving some excuse.

Shilpa had no reason to smell something fishy. However, when Prajakta did not return for a long time, Shilpa informed Atul over phone. Atul rushed home and soon, accompanied by his brother-in-law Rajendra Deshmukh and other relatives, went out in search of his wife and son. As she had left her mobile at home, they were unable to locate her.

So Atul lodged a missing complaint with Hudkeshwar police. A worried Atul somehow spent the night and again set off early in the morning to look for his wife and son. On peeping into the wells in the locality, he spotted two floating corpses in a well. He immediately informed the police, which rushed there along with PSI N D Purbhe. The fire brigade was summoned to the spot and the bodies were fished out. The police filed a complaint against Prajakta of murdering her son.
