Sex racket busted in PM Awas Yojana building near Symbiosis College in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a major crackdown on human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, the Social Security Branch (SSB) and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Nagpur Police exposed a sex racket operating in the Wathoda area under Operation Shakti.

The operation was carried out on November 17 between 3:30 pm and 10 pm. Police had received reliable information that a sex racket was being run inside a Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana building in Tarodi village, near Symbiosis College, under the jurisdiction of Wathoda Police Station. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were luring a woman with promises of financial gain and forcing her into prostitution.

During the raid, police detained Shankar Ganeshrao Wankhede (38) and Swati alias Mayuri Wankhede (34), both residents of Jyotinagar, Nagpur. The duo had taken the flat on rent in the same building where the illegal activity was being carried out. The team also rescued one woman victim from the premises.

Police seized a total of Rs 21,540 worth of material, including two mobile phones valued at Rs 20,000, Rs 1,500 in cash used for transactions, and four sealed condoms.

Following a medical examination, the accused and the rescued woman were handed over to the Wathoda Police for further investigation. Officials said the drive is part of an ongoing mission to eliminate human trafficking and sexual exploitation networks across the city.
