That the citizens of Nagpur have special affinity towards the wild life has been proven time and again and Wednesday morning at Sonegaon Lake was no exception. While this could be tagged as one of the major rescue operation where 6 out of 10 snakes were safely pulled out from the fishing net which was put up at the lake, it has also drawn the attention of wild life enthusiasts and researchers towards massive breeding of checkered keelback or Asiatic water snakes in Sonegaon lake.
While the citizens around this locality were on their usual morning walk amid the cloudy, breezy weather this morning, someone spotted something shuffling on the surface in the middle of this lake. As he drew closer to find out what it was, he was surprised to see good number of snakes caught in the net, struggling to break free from the trap.
Later, few more citizens gathered there out of curiosity. Someone from the group called two men Pravin Katre and Mayuresh Joshi known to be experts in rescuing the serpents. In no time both of them were at the spot and rushed into action.
They took out the net and cut the threads to free the snakes that were so badly entangled that 4 of the 10 snakes had already died after struggling for long to get off the trap.
However both Pravin and Mayuresh were contented that they successfully saved 6 snakes.
Here’s a look at how the entire rescue operation was carried out
