Nagpur: At a time when novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is now under control and the new variant Omicron has increased worries, the report of Sero survey is going to be really important. Samples of 6,000 persons have been taken in this survey which began from September last. This report will be submitted to the Divisional Commissioner by the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the next 8 to 10 days.

The Delta version of the virus had created havoc in the Second Wave of Covid-19. Even though the number of patients with the virus is not decreasing, now Omicron has created an atmosphere of fear. There are 30 mutations in the spike protein of this variant. This is likely to reduce the effect of the Covid-19 vaccines.

Experts say that this report will be useful in the Sero survey conducted in Nagpur district on how many citizens became Covid positive without their knowledge. The first Sero survey included 4,000 people. Now, in the second survey 6,000 people took part. A total of 3,000 blood samples were collected from 75 to 80 people in 4 wards in 10 different zones of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, while a total of 3,000 blood samples were collected from 13 rural tehsils, 1 headquarters each and 2 villages.
