Science literacy helps women in daily lives, shapes future, says experts

Nagpur: A panel discussion on women empowerment was held in the NEERI Auditorium recently. The topic of this panel discussion was ‘Women as Drivers of Societal Change”. The program was organized by CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur and OWSD (Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World) Cell, Nagpur Chapter.

The discussion deliberated on the fact that the women scientists can be the role models and become instrumental in providing the fellow women with greater science literacy and competence in their daily lives as well as future endeavours, with the skillful application of science and technology.

The panelists suggested that a change in mindset is essential for women empowerment. The programme witnessed the presence of accomplished women experts from diverse fields who shared many inspiring experiences.

The panelists included in the discussion were Dr. Akhilesh Peshwe, Principal, Dharampeth Science College, Nagpur, Dr. Harsh Jharia, LAD College, Nagpur, Dr. Sudha Tiwari, Shakti Group, Dr. Kalpana Pande, Ex-Mayor, NMC, Dr. Rina Saha, Mohota Science College, Nagpur, Dr. Nitin Labhsetwar, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEERI, Mrs. Monica Bhagwagar, Entrepreneur, Dr. Atya Kapley, Head, Director’s Research Cell, CSIR-NEERI and Vice-President, OWSD, Asian Pacific region.

Dr. Rita Dhodapkar, Senior Technical Officer, CSIR-NEERI, Dr. Asifa Qureshi, Senior Scientist, CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur, Dr. S. Saravanadevi, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-NEERI and Dr. Shilpa Kumari, Scientist, CSIR-NEERI were all present during the panel discussion .
