School clerk arrested for selling mid-day meal rice in open market

Nagpur: Police on Friday arrested a clerk of Nirala High School and a vehicle driver for selling rice allotted for the mid-day meal scheme in the open market. Cops seized a Tata Ace vehicle and 23 bags of rice collectively worth Rs 1.50 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Pramod Singh Mahendra Singh (34), resident of Gittikhadan, who was working as clerk in Nirala High School and Nikki Sonekar, the Tata Ace driver.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Tehsil police led by Senior PI Vaibhav Jadhav, intercepted the Tata Ace vehicle near Bhagwaghar Square. Police seized the rice bag laden vehicle and rounded up the two accused. The accused clerk was allegedly selling the rice allotted for the mid-day meal scheme for school children of class 5 to 8 to a trader in Ganga Nagar area.

Tehsil PSI A J Chavan, acting on the complaint of Gautam Prakash Gedam (40), Superintendent, School Nutritional Supplement, ZP, booked the two accused under Sections 409, 34 of the IPC and placed them under arrest.
