Scented tobacco, gutkha worth Rs 5 lakh seized in raid at Khamla

Continuing with the aim to eliminate illegal selling of gutkha and flavoured tobacco from the city, another raid was conducted on Wednesday in which cops have seized gutkha and flavoured tobacco worth Rs 5 lakh from Sindhi Colony, Khamla.

After getting a tip off about illegal storage of gutkha in a building at Khamla, Sitabuldi police were directed to take action in this case. Police, along with two officials of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Pravin Upam and Kiran Gedam, reached the destination at Sindhi Colony in Khamla. Cops discovered that the stated place was a three storeyed building. Though the area came under Rana Pratap Nagar police’s jurisdiction, DCP Abhinash Kumar directed Sitabuldi police continue with the raid without the knowledge of the police station concerned.

Scented tobacco and gutkha was recovered from the raid worth Rs 5.02 lakh. The house belonged to one Rewachand Paraswani, police said but further details were not disclosed.

The raid was conducted by API Bandekar, API Vernekar, constables Vikas, Sachin along with Chhaya and Babita.
