Nagpur: Acting adroitly on the clues in hands, the Crime Branch cracked the murder of 65-year old widow Shashikala Nashikrao Thakre by nabbing two accused from Gondia on Tuesday.
The two accused have been identified as Shivprasad Ghanshyam Bangre (38), native of Dabha Tehsil, District Bhandara bur presently staying in Santoshi Mata Nagar, Hudkeshwar, and Pravin Ashok Bhandarkar (29), native of Ramnagar, Gondia.
Briefing media, the DCP Zone 4 GT Shridhar said that the motive of the old woman’s murder has turned out be robbery.
Shashikala was murdered in her Om Nagar residence just metres away from Sakkardara Police Station on Monday (September 26) afternoon. In fact, the accused were allegedly planning the robbery since the past one year as both had worked at Shashikala’s house as labourers. The frail woman was done to death by the two accused to hide their identity
After killing Shashikala with scissors, the robbers searched almirahs but could not lay hands on valuables. Considering the seriousness of incident that took place a few metres away from police station, the probe was handed over to Crime Branch.
Sakkardara cops too were involved in the investigation. The probing teams first scanned the CCTV footages from the nearby areas of crime and spotted suspicious actions of the two accused. The cops worked out till late night for determine the identity of the two suspects. The CCTV footage was shown to some persons who identified one of them as Pravin from Gondia. Wife of the accused also identified him as her husband. With the major clue in hands, a team of Crime Branch sleuths and Sakkardara cops was dispatched to Gondia wherte both the accused Shivprasad Ghanshyam Bangre and Pravin Ashok Bhandarkar were nabbed.
Unconfirmed reports say that cops recovered a gold chain, earring, and cash of Rs 20000 from the possession of the arrested accused. However, cops have not verified the fact.
The task was carried out by PI Mulani, PI Kadam and their team of Sakkardara Police Station and APIs Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar, Pradeep Atulkar, Vikrant Sagne, police constables Shatrughna Kadu, Shailesh Thavre, Suresh Hingnekar, Nursingh Damahe, Dharmendra Sarode, Naik Police Constables Manish Bhosale, Atul Davande, Mangesh Lande, drivers Sharif Sheikh, Sheikh Firoze under the guidance and directives of Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham, Joint CP Santosh Rastogi, DCP (Crime) Ranjan Sharma, DCP Zone 4 Shridhar, ACP (Crime) Nilesh Raut and ACP Sakkardara Kapgate.
