Sakkardara police busted a two-member car lifters’ gang, in style. A stolen Maruti Swift Dezire car and a couple of fake number plates have been recovered from the two arrested accused.

It all happened when API Dehankar, PSIs Sharad Shipne, Goval, constable Rashid were on patrol with their own vehicles around 9.30 pm on February 12. Midway, the patrolling cops spotted a white-coloured Maruti Swift Dezire car without number plates speeding towards Buland Darwaza , Tajbagh. The car sans number plates aroused suspicion of the cops and they mounted a chase of the car. They intercepted the speeding car and signaled the two occupants to stop the vehicle. As ordered the two occupants halted the car but started running on foot in order to dodge the policemen. Cops too chased them hotly and succeeded in nabbing the two fleeing men at Chamat Flour Mill Square near Flyover. When asked about the reason for fleeing, the two men, Mohd Faizan Mohd Vakil (28) of Mominpura and Mohd Sohel Mohd Gaffoor (22) of Bhankheda, fumbled and failed to give satisfactory reply.

Cops then asked for papers of the car but the accused could not provide. The suspicious cops frisked the car and found two number plates — MH-49/U 2379 and MP-16/MF 0001 hidden in the car. The two accused were brought to Sakkardara Police Station and subjected to further interrogation. During the grilling, the two accused spilled the beans and told cops that they had stolen the Maruti Swift Dezire from behind RTO City Office. An offence in this regard was registered with Sitabuldi police.

The two accused Mohd Faizan Mohd Vakil and Mohd Sohel Mohd Gaffoor were booked under Section 41(1)(D) of CrPC and placed under arrest. The Swift Dezire car worth Rs 5 lakh was impounded.

The task was achieved under the guidance of Senior PI Anand Nerlekar.
