Nagpur: In a daring daylight act, ruffians struck at a house belonging to none other than Assistant Police Inspector (API) of Tehsil Police Station. A booty including gold ornaments and cash was stolen in the bright sunshine between 11.20 am and 11.50 am on Monday. The theft has left the police circle red-faced.

The API Prashant Pundlikrao Nagtilak had taken a house on Jaitala Road on rent when he was posted at Pratap Nagar Police Station. Currently, he is posted in Tehsil Police Station. On Monday, the API left home on Monday morning for duty. His wife locked house around 11.20 am and went to her daughter’s school. She returned at 11.50 am but was shocked to find latch of the front door broken. The burglars had laid their hands on gold ornaments and cash of Rs 10,000 kept in almirah. The bewildered woman immediately informed her police husband. In turn, the API Nagtilak alerted MIDC police on phone. MIDC API Kale and his team rushed to the spot and launched an in-depth investigation. The cops enquired nearby residents for a clue but drew a blank. People were also amused over the daylight theft at a police officer’s house not to mention the red-faced police circle.

MIDC cops have booked the unidentified miscreants under relevant sections of IPC and hunting to net the culprits.
