Rural cops seize illegally mined sand, tractor in Nagpur

Nagpur News: Rural Police have arrested two persons on the charges of illegally mining and stealing sand from river bed and seized the sand and a tractor collectively worth Rs 5,03,000 from the accused.

According to police, the two accused Praful Avadhut Dahat (21), resident of Karajghat and driver of tractor (MH-40/AL 7359) and the tractor owner Charandas Waman Patil (35), resident of Karajghat, were found illegally mining sand from a river in Khangaon Shivar and taking the sand in the tractor. Both the accused were intercepted by Kelwad police. On interrogation, both Praful and Charandas failed to give satisfactory replies about the sand. Subsequently, cops seized the 150 feet sand excavated from river bed and the tractor collectively worth Rs 5,03,000 from the possession of the accused. An offence under Section 379 of the IPC and Sub-Section 158(A)(B)(C) of Motor Vehicles Act was registered with Kelwad Police Station in this connection. Both the accused were placed under arrest. Further probe is underway.
