
Nagpur: Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is set to witness a moment steeped in scholarship and symbolism as it prepares for its 113th Convocation Ceremony on January 9, to be held at the National Fire Service College auditorium, Rajnagar, at 3 pm.
Among the highlights of the ceremony will be the conferring of the Doctor of Literature (DLitt) degree in Economics on 97-year-old Vinayak Pande, making him one of the oldest scholars to receive the honour at the university. Deepak Wankhede will also be conferred with a DLitt degree, in Geography.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar shared these details while addressing a press conference on the university campus on Wednesday. She said the convocation will also celebrate exceptional academic excellence, with gold medals and prizes being awarded to meritorious students across disciplines.
Kratika Shankar Dhote of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College will receive five gold medals and two prizes for securing the highest aggregate marks in the five-year BA LLB course. Suchetan Prakash Gabhane of Dhananjayrao Gadgil Sahkari Prabandhan Sansthan, Nagpur, topped the MBA examination and will be awarded six gold medals.
In postgraduate studies, Archana Kisan Lale from the Department of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Thought emerged as the topper in MA Buddhist Studies and will receive six gold medals. Tathagat Thakur of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi, secured the top position in the three-year LLB course and will be honoured with five gold medals.
Nivedita Rajendra Fusate of Yashwant College, Wardha, topped MA Marathi, earning four gold medals and one prize, while Prachi Wamanrao Thakre of the Department of Mass Communication secured the highest aggregate marks in Bachelor of Journalism and will receive three gold medals and two prizes.
The Vice-Chancellor said that 61,871 students will be awarded degrees and diplomas at the convocation, including 279 candidates who will receive PhD degrees. Marking the university’s 102 years of establishment, she highlighted RTMNU’s contributions to academic research, examinations and social initiatives through its affiliated colleges and postgraduate departments.
The convocation will be presided over by Dr Kshirsagar, with Anant Pandhare, Chairman, AIIMS, attending as the chief guest. Registrar Rajiv Hiwse, Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation Manish Zhodpe, Finance and Accounts Officer Harish Paliwal, Deputy Registrar (Examination) Dr Navin Mungle, and other officials were present at the press briefing.
