Around 1000 students and about 1200 employees of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) can avail of medical facility and have a health center, which is situated at D Laxminarayan Campus, Amravati Road, Nagpur.  But trivia here is that very few students know that there is this medical facility for them. For which a small sum is also included their fees. Free medical treatment along with free medicines is provided to the students of Nagpur University at this centre.

RTMNU administration has turned a blind eye to this very important and basic health facility.

The condition of this health facility is very bad. There are no tar roads and no sign which can tell there is any hospital in university campus. The hospital is in very dilapidated condition. The walls and ceilings are leaking. The road to the hospital is filled with dirt. According to students the hospital now is without medicines. The surrounding of the hospital is also very neglected and not kept properly.

Nagpur Today spoke to the Medical Incharge of the facility Dr Mrs Shamkuwar, MD, she said, that she was on study leave and had joined back in the month of December 2013. I am trying to put the things in place. We are running short of funds. In this budget, there was no provision for the hospital, since I was not there on duty.”

The administration projects in its website of providing so many facilities. But here it seems it has forgotten to even provide the most basic and important facilities. There is a good number of personnel in the hospital consisting medical officer, compounder, clerk, ward boy and a peon.  But the hospital is lacking in basic infrastructure and other facilities.

If the hospital administration had wellbeing of students in mind much could have been done and good infrastructure for students could have been put in place.
