Nagpur: In a major burglary that has stunned residents of Bharat Nagar in Kalamna, unidentified thieves broke into a locked house and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 43 lakh, taking advantage of the family’s absence due to medical treatment.
The burglary took place at Plot No. 103, Shikshak Colony, Bharat Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Kalamna Police Station, between 9 pm on January 21 and 1.15 pm on January 22.
The complainant, Amna Mohammad Iqbal (23), had locked the house and gone to stay overnight at her grandmother’s residence in Bharat Nagar after her parents, siblings and relatives had travelled to Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh for Ayurvedic treatment of her younger brother Mohammad Ali, who is suffering from a brain-related ailment.
Taking advantage of the empty house, the burglars allegedly broke open the wall compound gate and smashed the main door lock, forcefully entering the premises. The accused then ransacked the house and fled with Rs 15 lakh in cash, gold ornaments, an iPhone mobile phone, and an Activa scooter. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at Rs 43 lakh.
The massive theft came to light when the complainant returned home and found the house broken into and valuables missing. Panic gripped the locality soon after news of the burglary spread.
Based on the complaint, Police Sub-Inspector Ajay Garje of Kalamna Police Station registered a case against unknown accused under Sections 305(a), 331(3) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have launched an intensive investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the culprits.
The audacious burglary has raised serious concerns over security in residential areas of Kalamna, with locals demanding increased night patrolling and swift action to crack the case.
