The State Government has announced the compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of those lost their lives in the recent torrential rains that wreaked havoc on the life and property of Nagpur. Nagpur District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule informed this here on Friday. He said that atleast 11 people were killed in the recent rain fury, which included 7 from rural and 4 from urban areas.
The Guardian Minister who led a review meeting of the officials concerned on Friday informed the first hand estimate put the number of damaged houses at 20,000. However the administration has been given time till Monday to estimate the total loss caused by the rains.
Bawankule however diverted the question of non-preparedness on the part of civic and government machinery to people’s fault. He termed the encroachment of 90 percent nullahs in the city as the reason behind the situation getting worse. He however said a schematic approach has been adopted to avoid similar circumstances in future.
Participation of local autonomous bodies will also be ensured along with the state government while implementing the said scheme, he added.
