Nagpur: Rohan Gurbani emerged U-15 boys singles champion in the All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament at Patna, Bihar on Sunday.
With this triumph, Rohan, a Standard VIII student of Centre Point School, Katol Road, became the first Nagpur boy to win national-level U-15 title.
According to the information reaching here, the fifth seed Rohan surprised third seed Pavan Krishna Thokala 21-17, 22-20 in 30 minutes at the Patliputra Sports Complex to clinch his maiden title. In a well-contested final, fourteen-year-old Rohan displayed extraordinary exhibition of power and speed to down his Andhra Pradesh opponent.
On his way to victory, Rohan beat four seeded players. In the U-15 doubles too, Rohan and his partner Bhavin Karamchandani (Gujarat) excelled and reached the semifinal to wrap up an excellent week. Rohan trains under Ajay Dayal at the Badminton Life Club.
