Nagpur: Nagpur City Congress workers on Wednesday took the protest route to press for their demand to blacklist the contractors involved in road asphaltation scam. City Congress President Vikas Thakre led the agitating workers to NMC headquarters and protested against ruling BJP and NMC administration. The protesting workers stormed the NMC premises and raised anti-BJP slogans.
Congress leaders Prakash Dhawad, Kishore Jichkar, Umakant Agnihotri, Raju Vyas, Vikram Pankule and large number of party workers joined the protest along with Thakre.
Thakre alleged that the ruling party and NMC officials were deliberately protecting the corrupt contractors. He said Congress has also pressed for blacklisting such tainted companies earlier but nothing was initiated despited NMC’s assurance.
It may be mentioned that many contractors were found to have committed series of irregularities in road asphaltation works in Nagpur. Many internal roads in city were not even asphalted and massive corruption was committed. The scam which rocked NMC few months back has exposed many corrupt contractors against which Congress has demanded strict action.
Thakre warned that further laxity would not be tolerated at any cost. He questioned the NMC’s inaction even after the allegations have been proved against the contractors. He also said they would further strengthen the stir if their demands are not met with.
